Bess B. Ward, Ph.D.


“Revising the Marine Microbial Nitrogen Cycle:
Novel pathways and old constraints"


Dr. Bess Ward is the William J. Sinclair Professor and Chair of the Department of Geosciences at Princeton University. Professor Ward is a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology, the American Geophysical Union, and theAmerican Academy of Arts and Sciences. In 1997, shereceived the G. Evelyn Hutchinson Medal from the AmericanSociety of Limnology and Oceanography making her the first woman and the youngest person ever to receive such anaward. Bess has also been awarded the Procter & Gamble Award in Applied and Environmental Microbiology for the American Society for Microbiology in 2012. Her research focuses on the marine and global nitrogen cycle, usingmolecular biological investigations of marine bacteria and bacterial processes. Dr. Ward has published over 130 papers in the scientific literature with over 4500 citations.

Deadline for receipt of abstracts is March 27, 2014

NOTE:  You need not be a member of TSS to participate in the poster presentations.

Abstracts of short papers of original scientific research are being solicited from undergraduate, graduate, post-doctoral and new industrial researchers for poster presentations for the TSS Annual Meeting in Miniature.  Cash prizes will be awarded for outstanding presentations in appropriate categories.

Send abstracts by e-mail to andrew.marinucci@verizon.net.  Abstract length should not exceed 2500 characters (including title, authors and affiliations).  Abstracts may be attached to word processing files (Word, WordPerfect or other popular formats).  Please do not send desktop publishing files or PDFs (a PDF may accompany the word processor file for reference).  Use standard Windows symbols when special characters are needed.  Also accepted, but subject to editor's formatting, are abstracts directly pasted into the e-mail.  Hard copy (paper) abstracts may also be submitted by mailing to the editor:

NOTE:  Posters are to be pre-mounted on a rigid base as the society only provides display easels.  Indicate on the paper the presenter (use an asterisk).  Indicate category of presenter (undergraduate, graduate, post-doctoral, or industrial).
